DRUG PREVENTION PROGRAM
Since the health and safety of our students is our ultimate concern, Hale Center ISD has entered into a canine surveillance program for the detection and prevention of drug abuse. Regular and unannounced visits by the “drug dog” will be made throughout the year. Our goal is not to catch students and expel them; it is to prevent drug possession and use on school property.
The following policy will govern the relationships between the district and its students who become involved with controlled substances, alcohol, hallucinogenic, hypnotic, or sedative drugs and chemicals or drug paraphernalia.
If you are worried that your child may be using or is in danger of experimenting, using, or abusing illegal drugs or other prohibited substances, please contact the school counselor. The school counselor can provide you with a list of community resources that may be of assistance to you. The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) maintains information regarding children’s mental health and substance abuse intervention services on its website: Texas Statewide Behavioral Health Coordinating Council & Mental Health & Substance Use
